Warm Up in Your Hot Tub on Chilly Nights

Fall 2009 Enjoy Your Hot Tub Throughout the Winter

Winter’s chilly weather provides the perfect opportunity to enjoy the warmth and comfort of a personal hot tub. In just 15 minutes, a hot tub can take you from cold and crabby to warm and relaxed—giving you the energy you need to face those dark winter days.

“A hot tub is meant to be enjoyed in cooler weather,” says Paul Kurke, Arch Chemicals Training Manager. “That’s when hot tubs are really enjoyable.”

Health benefits

For those little aches and pains that winter can bring, a soothing, relaxing experience might be just what the doctor ordered. Hot water can loosen up tight joints and relieve the discomfort caused by cold or wet weather. With your hot tub, you can also use aromatherapy products, such as being® Hot tub Aromatherapy to help release tension.

In fact, the Arthritis Foundation recommends exercising in a hot tub for several minutes to encourage free movement, ease tension on the joints and help build muscle strength.

Hot tub parties in the snow

It may be too cold outside to barbecue, but that shouldn’t stop your backyard fun.

Hot tub parties provide a fun and unique way to entertain during colder months. With a few candles and some music, you can quickly transform your hot tub into a warm, cozy destination for you and your guests.

Do you see snow in the forecast? Use an attachable umbrella to shield your hot tub from the weather while you and your guests enjoy the picturesque winter view.

Winter hot tub maintenance tips

• In any climate where the temperature may dip below freezing, keep the warm water circulating. “Freeze damage can extend beyond burst pipes—filters, blower motors and heaters may be damaged as well,” says Kurke. • If the hot tub is equipped with a freeze protection system, be sure it is activated. Keep heat settings far above the minimum level to provide extra protection. • If you don’t have freeze protection, set the timer to turn the heater on at frequent intervals. Fifteen-minute intervals are appropriate for extremely cold climates. • As the weather changes, take a water sample to your authorized Arch dealer to ensure your water is properly balanced. box
